Aurora with 2 kids - you bet...! by boxerkev37
Sailing date: Mar 28th, 00:00
Cons: Surly staff on reception
We have cruised with P&O cruises three times. Our most recent cruise was a nine-day trip to the Canaries (including Madeira). P&O work hard to develop their family friendly credentials and this was evident throughout the whole of the trip.
Whilst the Aurora is not labelled as their ‘child friendly’ ship (that prize is awarded to the Oceana), we found that the facilities provided for our two children (aged 14 & 11) were the best we’d encountered in the fleet so far (we have sailed on Oriana, Oceana and Aurora). They both had the time of their life. There was no shortage of activities (all structured) for them to participate in. They frequently asked to dine with their new pals and this made a more ‘adult’ holiday for us. We both enjoyed a degree of freedom that we have not had before and we felt the benefit.
The service in the restaurants is second to none. This coupled with some of the most exquisitely prepared food made is have to spend a great of time in the well appointed gym to be able to try and undo the pounds that would otherwise creep on. The gym is well designed with new Technogym equipment and a sprung dance/exercise area.
My only gripe about the whole cruise is that the front-of-house reception staff are not helpful and can be distinctly surly when asked to assist. When you get past this stage of fortification, the person you generally speak to is helpful and informed.
I would book another cruise with P&O without hesitation. We are looking next at the Ventura…!
