Balmoral, whilst being the largest ship in Fred Olsen’s fleet, still gives you a sense of intimacy. The staff were friendly and the service was great, we felt welcome and looked after. The newly inserted mid section was impressive – nice design, lots of space and light in the restaurants and bars. However the older section looked really tired by comparison. The cabins in the new section were lovely; these will get booked up well before those in the older sections which were dated and scruffy. It’s a shame Fred Olsen didn’t take the time to refurb more areas of the ship (or add the planned sauna), it would have been well worth it. Overall though a nice cruise, a slower more relaxing pace than we are used to which suited us for a mini cruise, albeit we would have been bored on a longer itinerary.
